A bounded first shift gives better information than enthusiasm alone.

Reliability can be small
One shift you can attend consistently is more useful than a broad promise that erodes under deadlines. Sustainable involvement leaves enough capacity to remain present while you are there. Put the commitment beside classes, paid work and travel on the same calendar, then include a recovery margin. When circumstances change, tell the coordinator early and use the agreed cancellation process. Responsible volunteering includes protecting the people served from a role you can no longer perform reliably.
