Set the access boundary
Helping with payment does not require sharing the student’s password.
- Student credentialsThe student keeps portal, email and identity verification private.
- Authorized payerUse the school’s official delegated billing access when available.
- FERPA consentThe student decides whether and how the school may discuss education records, subject to lawful exceptions.
- Payment proofBoth parties keep the receipt, account update and loan or plan terms.
- Next reviewSchedule a date for pending aid, refunds and later installment changes.
Let the student contact the office
Draft the question together, then let the student send it or begin the call. This protects account ownership and builds the skill needed when billing changes mid-semester.
