Use one total and one elapsed-time estimate for every option.

A fare is not workable if reaching it requires skipping an obligation.

Carry one disruption layer
Keep the items that protect time, health and access with you.

- MedicationKeep needed medication and instructions accessible in the personal item within current screening and carrier rules.
- One class dayCarry the device, charger or notes needed if travel changes before the term is actually complete.
- Food and water planKnow what can pass through screening and where a long transfer would otherwise force an expensive purchase.
- Alternative contactStore carrier, campus and pickup contacts somewhere available if one device loses power or service.
Choose between rebooking and a refund deliberately
When an airline cancels or significantly changes a flight, current DOT rules may provide a refund if the passenger does not accept the changed flight, rebooking, credit or other compensation. Read the live DOT page and the actual carrier notice before choosing an option.
A refund does not automatically solve the trip home. Compare the cost and timing of replacement travel first, preserve messages and receipts, and decide whether taking the offered route or ending the itinerary produces the better real outcome.
