Keep logistics from becoming surveillance
Share what another person needs to perform an agreed task.
- Pickup detailsProvide carrier, arrival time, station or terminal and a delay contact.
- Emergency routeMake sure one trusted person can access the itinerary without requiring continuous live tracking.
- Household accessConfirm keys, codes or arrival procedures through a secure direct channel.
- Return planKeep the departure and campus reentry requirements under the student's control.
Expect the first day to contain two transitions
The student may be relieved to return and still need quiet, sleep or time to shift out of campus mode. Family members may have rearranged work and household plans and still need clearer notice.
Treat the first mismatch as scheduling information. Reconfirm the next day, the fixed events and one block of unscheduled time rather than using the whole visit to settle what independence should look like.
