  1. Confirm identityVerify the legal name, date of birth, student ID number, preferred name and mailing address shown by the school.
  2. Open every holdRead the full reason, responsible office, required document and processing time instead of relying on the red badge.
  3. Activate connected servicesTest email, learning platform, housing, billing, health, library and campus-card access.
  4. Set recovery methodsAdd a current phone or recovery method and store backup codes somewhere other than the same phone.
  5. Save completion proofDownload confirmations or take a dated screenshot when the portal does not provide a receipt.

Ask the office that owns the problem

A useful message gives staff enough information to act without exposing sensitive data.

  • What should I include?Your name, student ID, exact hold label, the date you completed the requirement and the result you expected.
  • What should I omit?Passwords, full Social Security numbers, bank credentials and unrequested health documents.
  • When should I follow up?After the published processing window passes, or sooner if the hold blocks a dated registration or housing action.
  • Who can escalate it?Ask the first office to identify the record owner instead of forwarding the same message to several unrelated departments.
