Different travel modes fail differently, so name the decision point before departure.

Make the goodbye separate from unloading

Agree on a departure time before the room fills with boxes. Complete required check-in, make the bed, locate the bathroom and confirm the student can lock the room before shifting into decorating or family photos.

If something goes wrong, protect the essentials and ask housing staff for the next official step. A delayed bin is inconvenient; a missed check-in procedure or inaccessible medication can be consequential.
